Amazon just announced three AI-made animated series and they’re heading to Prime Video

The Three AI Animated Series

Amazon MGM Studios, in partnership with Amazon Web Services, has taken a bold step into the future of animation by launching the GenAI Creators' Fund. This initiative provides filmmakers with both funding and access to professional-grade AI production tools, democratizing a field that has traditionally been closed to independent creators. The first fruits of this program are three animated series greenlit for Prime Video: Punky Duck, Love, Diana Music Hunters, and Cupcake & Friends.

Punky Duck comes from Emmy-winning filmmaker Jorge R. Gutierrez, best known for The Book of Life. The series follows a lovable punk duck and his best friend Smiley Cat as they navigate a wildly exaggerated version of Los Angeles, encountering alien invasions, robot conspiracies, and giant monsters. Gutierrez's signature visual style—vibrant, folk-art-inspired, and full of energy—is expected to shine through even with AI assistance. The project represents a new frontier for an artist who has always pushed animation boundaries.

Love, Diana Music Hunters is created by Albie Hecht, the former Nickelodeon president responsible for launching SpongeBob SquarePants. The series centers on a band of K-pop musicians who travel through space to Planet Goo, where they must perform a concert to restore music and save alien lives. The character Diana is already a massive star on YouTube, making this a natural extension of her digital presence. Hecht's track record suggests a show that blends music, adventure, and humor, now supercharged by AI-driven production efficiencies.

Cupcake & Friends, from BuzzFeed Studios, takes a simpler premise: a cupcake and her crew deal with the unexpected chaos of a sleepover. While the concept sounds small, the creative team plans to use AI to generate varied backgrounds, character expressions, and story possibilities rapidly. This series may best demonstrate how AI can accelerate the production of short-form, episodic content tailored for streaming audiences.

Project Nara: The AI Platform Behind the Shows

Every one of these shows is powered by Project Nara, Amazon MGM Studios' custom AI production platform running on AWS infrastructure. Unlike general-purpose AI tools, Project Nara is purpose-built for animation workflows. It connects directly with industry-standard software like Maya, Blender, Nuke, Unreal Engine, and Adobe Suite. The platform routes each task—whether it's generating background art, animating character movements, or compositing final shots—to whichever AI model handles it best, optimizing for speed and quality.

Amazon gave the creators just five weeks to deliver their pilots, a timeline that would be nearly impossible with traditional animation methods. This speed highlights the transformative potential of AI in media production. However, the studio has emphasized that humans remain in control of all creative decisions, with real actors and voice talent on every show. Whether this promise holds as the technology scales remains to be seen. The broader industry is watching closely, as a successful rollout could lead to a wave of AI-assisted content across streaming platforms.

The GenAI Creators' Fund is not just about output; it's about access. Traditionally, animation has been capital-intensive, requiring large teams and expensive software. By lowering these barriers, Amazon hopes to unearth new voices and stories that might otherwise never be told. With the initial three series, they have already chosen projects from established creators, but the fund is open to a wider range of filmmakers in future cycles.

Related News: House of the Dragon Season 3 Trailer

HBO has released the final trailer for House of the Dragon season 3, and it spoils one of the season's biggest moments: the Battle of the Gullet. The trailer shows Rhaenyra Targaryen winning the battle and taking King's Landing, a development that for fans of George R.R. Martin's Fire and Blood was inevitable, but for casual viewers might have been better discovered on screen. The season is set to open with this massive naval clash, and the marketing team's decision to reveal its outcome reflects HBO's confidence in the journey, not just the destination. The show continues to explore the complexities of power, betrayal, and family as the Targaryen civil war escalates.

Hulu App May Be Merging with Disney+

The Hulu app might not disappear overnight, but behind the scenes, Disney is working on Project Gemini—a multi-phase plan to integrate more of Hulu's content and features into Disney+. According to a leaked internal document and two streaming employees, the unified experience is expected to be complete by the end of the year. However, Disney told Business Insider that there are 'no current plans to sunset' the standalone Hulu app. This cat-and-mouse game suggests that Disney is trying to retain both streaming brands while gradually merging their backends. For consumers, this could mean a single app with combined libraries, but also potentially higher prices as the bundling becomes tighter.

Scary Movie’s Subservient Ghostface Marketing

The upcoming Scary Movie reboot is taking a creative approach to marketing with a website called Subservient Ghostface. Visitors can type commands and watch the masked killer from the franchise carry them out on screen in real time. The site, launched by Wayans Bros. Entertainment, taps into the nostalgia of early internet interactive experiences while building buzz for the film's June 5 release. Fans have already flooded the site with commands, proving that even a horror icon can become a playful digital tool when used right. The campaign underscores how modern movie marketing is blending technology and audience participation to generate organic interest.
